Objective To observe the levels of serum IL-10 and its dynamic viriation at 24h, 48h, 72h in the early stage of sepsis after admission. To evaluate its value in the severity of disease and prognosis.
Methods Thirty-eight patients with spesis erolled in the intensive care unit of the First Affiliated Hospital of Zheng Zhou University from Dec 2009 to Aug 2010 were chosen as sepsis group, twenty patients with non sepsis were control group. The therapy efficacy was classified to survival or death according to 28-days survival. The vital signs (including tempreture, respiratory, pulse, blood pressure), blood routine, hepatic function, renal function, electrolyte, blood clutting function, blood gas analysis, and CRP were recorded at 24h, 48h, 72h after patients admission. Obtained 3ml venous blood respectively at 24h, 48h, 72h, then kept the serum which obtained after centrifugated in deep freeze refragetor of negative 70 degree centigrade. The serum IL-10 level was tested by ELISA. The relationship between IL-10 level and survival were analyzed. The value of IL-10 in the evaluation of severity of sepsis and prognosis were estimated.
Results The comparison between sepsis group and control group of vital signs, blood routine, hepatc function, renal function, blood clotting function, arterial blood gas, and electrolyte in 24h, 48h, 72h were no significant differences (P>0.05). The level of serum IL-10 in sepsis group at 24h, 48h, 72h were all higher than control group (P<0.05). The level of serum IL-10 was uptrend, the difference had statistical significance (P<0.05). The serum IL-10 in death patients with sepsis were higher than survivals at 24h, 48, 72h, the difference had statistical significance (P<0.05).
Conclusions The level of serum IL-10 was elevated in patients with sepsis, and the levels in death patients with sepsis were higher than survival ones. The level of serum  IL-10 was uptrend with the development of disease. The level of serum IL-10 may evaluate the severity of sepsis and prognosis.
