Objective: To investigate the clinical application value and significance of portable orgnaophosphorus pesticide fast detector (abbreviated as Detector).
Methods: The Detector was used in 90 acute pesticide (including orgnaophosphorus pesticide and non-orgnaophosphorus pesticide) poisoning patients, who were treated in the Emergency Department of our hospital from March 2006 to February 2007. The monitored group consisted of 66 patients who were diagnosed with acute orgnahosphorus pesticide poisoning (AOPP). The control group consisted of 60 patients who were diagnosed with AOPP from March 2005 to February 2006. We identified the rapid diagnosis circumstance of the Detector, and compared the cholinesterase (ChE) activity recovery between the monitored group and control group.
Results: The Detector could help doctors quickly identify the nature of the toxin (whether poisoned for organophosphate or not). Compared with the control group, the monitored group had 60% recovery of ChE activity and was shortened.
Conclusion: The Detector can help doctors quickly identify the nature of the toxin. The research provides an objective basis for judgingwhether a thorough gastric lavage has been made and a more gastric lavage is needed. The therapeutic effect of monitored gastric lavage group had an advantage over that in the control group. The occurrence risk of MODS decreased in monitored gastric lavage group; therefore, the Detector should be popularized in clinical application.
